ChatGPT accurately diagnoses Hashimoto’s disease
Lauren Bannon, a U.S. resident, had been concerned about her health for several months. Starting from February 2024, her little finger became stiff in the mornings and evenings, making it difficult to bend. Lauren consulted doctors who diagnosed her with rheumatoid arthritis. However, tests for this condition came back negative.
Several months later, Lauren began experiencing severe stomach pain. This time, doctors attributed her condition to acid reflux. But Lauren grew skeptical about the doctors’ diagnoses and decided to enter her symptoms into the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot.
Remarkably, the AI immediately and accurately suggested that Lauren had Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune condition characterized by inflammation of the thyroid gland. When Lauren took this information to her doctor, the specialist dismissed the possibility of her having such a condition, arguing that there were no cases in her family.
