Heat puts strain on the body, causing it to work harder
The climate is obviously not the same as it was 15–20 years ago; we are seeing events that we do not remember on such a scale and with such frequency. There will be more, and a lot more… This is the new reality. From statistical facts about the changes, they have become painfully real and tangible!
Accelerated biological age is the “canary in the coal mine” for future risk of earlier onset of diseases such as cancer, dementia, and diabetes, as well as early death, says Jennifer Eilscher, professor of gerontology and sociology at the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California.
As climate change forces people to endure increasingly severe and prolonged heat waves, scientists say there is an urgent need to better understand how heat slowly and silently undermines human health at the cellular level.
