The presidential race

A turning point for democracy in Bulgaria

The regular elections for President and Vice-President of Bulgaria in 2026 will take place between 25 October and 22 November 2026, but according to analysts, the campaign has already begun with the official nomination of the first candidate – Iliana Yotova.

The right-wing democratic community claims that it is ‘still considering its options’, is finding it difficult to unite, and that it is too early for official announcements.

Meanwhile, it is clear that this will be a landmark contest for Bulgarian democracy and that we will not simply be electing a president and vice-president, but deciding whether to live under a democratic or an autocratic regime.
