Danshin’s advanced seismic system
Japan has introduced a groundbreaking way to protect homes from earthquakes. Air Danshin, a Japanese company, has developed “levitating” homes that use compressed air technology to lift houses off the ground when an earthquake strikes.
Under normal conditions, the house rests on a deflated airbag. However, when a tremor is detected, the system rapidly inflates the airbag, lifting the house and preventing direct contact with the shaking ground. Once the tremor stops, the house safely settles back down.
This innovative design has already proven effective, with homes using this technology remaining undamaged during a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in 2021. Japan also employs seismometers to monitor ground movements and volcanic activity, allowing for better earthquake preparedness and response.
