Previous investments in northern Argentina have mainly come from China and are controversial, not least because of their impact on the environment and local population. However, due to geopolitical and economic risks, Western countries are now striving for greater independence from authoritarian countries such as Russia and China in the energy and raw materials sector and are working to diversify their procurement markets. As a pro-Western, democratic country and due to its existing resources, Argentina offers considerable potential here. The fact that this offer has not yet met with greater demand from the West has to do in particular with the adverse investment conditions in the country to date.
