The great names of Bulgarian journalism are being sent into exile
As long as we care more about the quality of the TV we watch, rather than the content of the programmes; as long as we buy cheap propaganda newspapers because of Sudoku and TV programmes; as long as we click on the spectacular tabloid headlines – the voice of truth will be lost and the profession will sink. This sadness is not feigned. It is the destiny of some people to use facts as a foundation to help the curves to be seen. The problem is with democracy. When power rules the media, totalitarianism returns. Conversely, when the media controls power, people and their rights come first.
The quiet conquest of the media in 2024 began with the amendments to the Gambling Act. Quickly drafted and voted on the last parliamentary day before the upcoming new elections, they aimed for social prestige and the apparent fight against gambling addiction.
