“Boykova Mogila”2 – that’s what people called the landfill in Sukhodol that grew in height between 2015 and 2017. The impact on human health and nature can still be seen today by those living in the surrounding area. Our city’s waste has long served two purposes: periodic PR for politicians and the collection of tens of millions in this super-business with “the right companies,” obviously not without the participation of those same politicians.


Since the time of Stefan Sofiyanski, who was sued for years by civic organizations and green activists, it has become clear that Sofia’s waste is the most expensive waste in Europe. In November 2005, Borisov replaced Sofianski’s three terms and was already sitting in the mayor’s chair, his first job being to reproach journalists for making too much noise about the capital’s garbage.
