The story of Counterfeit of the holiday by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Temelski
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Ivanov Hristov (Temelski) is a Bulgarian historian, director of the Church Historical and Archival Institute at the Bulgarian Patriarchate, who draws attention to the fact that in the 1960s the Communist Party invented many “national” holidays to replace the faith of the Bulgarian people to highly revered Christian saints with new “national” holidays – for example, the Day of the Vine-Grower and the Day of the Shepherd.
And as a consequence of this change, newly created Bulgarian folk songs have emerged, merging myths and legends to embody both the birth of spring, respect for agriculture, but also bravery and courage on the Bulgarian Army Day.
