Southeast Europe has historically been a region of geopolitical competition, with several regional and global powers vying for influence. The six states in the region that are not (yet) part of the European Union, The Western Balkans Six, are part of a complex web of positive and antagonistic relations between all these different actors.


In an attempt to untangle the Gordian knot of Western Balkan geopolitics by providing an overview of the various relationships grouped into multiple constellations, Clingendael—the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, an independent research center in the field of international relations—has created a new interactive map.
