The wastage of mineral water in Bulgaria. Is there a way forward?

In Sofia, mineral water flows directly into the sewage system

You may frequently hear that mineral water in Bulgaria literally gushes out at around every corner. Bulgaria is popularly believed to have the most abundant mineral waters in Europe after Iceland. This view is based on multiple assumptions, but may well be based on the need for us to have something to be proud of.

In this sense, the following text is not intended to undermine our pride, but to encourage a discussion about the mineral springs we really do have at our disposal. We will discuss the way in which we use them and how we can preserve and manage our mineral water to best of our abilities. However, the above notions are in fact completely erroneous.

Bulgaria has mineral water, but if it does not urgently start investing in the intelligent management of this valuable and useful resource, it will find itself in a crisis similar to that with drinking water. Until then, the mineral water springs of Sofia Central Baths of over 7 l/s (or more than 1 million litres per day) will be constantly discarded straight into the sewers. Every day.
