Christ is risen!
On the occasion of the holiday we publish Ivan Vazov’s story “An Easter Reflection” from 1903 with abridgements.
“Love one another!”
These words were spoken nineteen centuries ago from a hill of Judea; words new, words strange, unheard by mankind of that time; a call incomprehensible to the then world sunk in the mire of debauchery and slavery, groaning under the iron despotism of Rome… “Love one another!” the God-man had said. Words of sublimity, words of profound revelation, in which is contained a whole religion of mercy and brotherhood, appointed to overthrow the religions of paganism, to set the world on a new moral basis, a basis as human as it is divine. And for these words the great teacher was crucified. And the ages and the nations have contemplated with wonder that image of the cross for nineteen centuries, and his divine teaching continues to astound minds with its sublime simplicity and profound philosophical righteousness.
