The shocking week – America broke up with Ukraine and Europe
The shock came from US President Donald Trump’s announced stance on peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which was, however, inconsistent with Kiev’s position before the talks with Russia. Ukraine’s NATO membership now seems more unclear than ever, after the same week the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, ruled out both the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO and any US role in enforcing a peace agreement. Suddenly, however, on the same day, Donald Trump surprisingly announced that he had had a 90-minute phone call with Vladimir Putin, and then gave a press conference in which he dismantled three years of US rhetoric about supporting Ukraine. Days later, the Munich conference heightened Europe’s fears about its own security as well. The date that marks the third year of Russia’s devastating war in Ukraine on February 24, 2025 is also approaching.
In the week of love and around the 14th of February, suddenly US stopped loving both Ukraine and Europe.
