“Argentina: give me 20 years and we’ll become Italy and after 35 we’ll become USA”
Since he took office as president of Argentina on December 10, 2023, Javier Millay has become one of the most talked-about leaders in the world, and after a memorable campaign that involved a chainsaw, set-on-fire pesos and a leather jacket.
Although Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world and rich in energy and mineral resources, including natural gas, hydrogen, lithium and copper, foreign investors are finding it hard to return after a long period of hyperinflation.
Millay’s promises of radical reforms come amid growing public discontent but also growing international support.
