The 100 rivers of Sofia Municipality have now become 99

We are losing the values given to us by nature and bequeathed to us by our ancestors

The Lisishka River (Trustulite), the last year-round flowing river in the Sofia “Ovcha Kupel 2” district. It even contains mineral water from the “Haznata” channelled natural spring in Gorna Banya. In the last 3 years, the Lisashka River has been connected to the sewerage system due to its contamination with sewage, a problem that could be resolved by the same project which is currently destroying it.

A previously unpublished study established that there are 100 rivers in Sofia Municipality, each with their own names. 33 of them pass through the city of Sofia, along with numerous unnamed tributaries. Sofia Municipality is rich in above-ground water resources, even though not all of them are very long or have a strong current.

This wealth of national importance remains hidden, except when it causes inconvenience to the general public or institutions.
