According to official data, Israel is the only country in the world where the number of trees is much higher now than it was a century ago. Since the middle of the 20th century, over 250 million new trees have been planted, not only for environmental reasons, but also as part of the Jewish cultural tradition. In winter, the holiday “New Year of Trees” (Tu BiShvat) is celebrated, the main idea of which is the repayment by man for the fruits of nature.
Every city in Israel has a green passport. Since people here are practical, this passport describes how to easily maintain trees in an urban environment. Species are selected which do not require much water, nor frequent pruning, are resistant to pests and cast a thick shadow. They do not damage the roads, electricity and water supply.
