The Rise of the Superhumans

How Technology is Redefining Human Potential

Bionics and portable robotics work miracles for people with amputated limbs. These devices are nothing like the previous generations of prostheses. Bionic devices transmit information directly to and from the brain through robotic elements. In this way, the hand can perform thought-induced actions, but also send back the experience of sensation. Many soldiers wounded in Ukraine have received such prostheses. One of them, Alexis Cholov, a surgeon, lost his right arm on the front line. Thanks to his bionic hand, he can continue to treat and help people with amputated limbs. The product is made by a Ukrainian start-up, and the cost of a prosthesis is 7000 USD. Injured soldiers are provided with artificial limbs free-of-charge through the state health care system.
